Urban trees: Aggression, asthma and aesthetics
Why should you care about trees? What difference can they really make in our urban lives? Science is finally catching up with what we already know makes sense. Trees are the lungs, air conditioners and water filters of our cities. They also increase our property values, lower our energy bills, reduce crime and aggression and can reduce prevalent pubic health issues in Baltimore, such as asthma and obesity. The list goes on. The good news is that the City is stepping up to the plate under the TreeBaltimore program to educate and encourage residents to plant native trees and water them.
About Anne Draddy:
Anne Draddy runs the TreeBaltimore program for the City of Baltimore out of the Department of Recreation and Parks. She is hooking up with neighborhoods, institutions, developers and industrial landowners to educate them on urban trees and put out a call to action to plant and water our trees. TreeBaltimore is an initiative to make Baltimore more livable, vibrant and healthy.
