Should I stay or should I go now?
Why is it that when I start to care about a place I don't have the ability to afford to stay and help? I have lived in Maryland all my life, and in Baltimore for the last three years of it. I have always wanted to get out of dodge. To find new adventure with dreams of west coast dot com startup. To just run from this Queen forsaken colony given to Lord Calvert of Baltimore.
Though, for some reason I have become smitten with this charm filled harbor city I lovingly call "Bmore". But sadly with the economic downturn I can't find a salaried job or clients to consult willing to pay a livable wage. At what point should I decide that the city I have grown to want to change for the better just can't provide me with a means to afford to help it? When is the point of no return when I should just decide to leave?
This five minute talk is on my moral quandary of should I stay and help for as long as possible to turn Baltimore into the city I dreamed of living in even if I can't seem to find a solid salaried job? Or, should I leave, screaming back to Baltimore as I do in my best Daniel Day-Lewis impersonation, "You be strong, you survive... You stay alive, no matter what occurs! I will find you. No matter how long it takes, no matter how far, I will find you." Not knowing if I actually will ever permanently return to this needing city.
