How the Internet Found Me an Apartment
When my girlfriend and I moved from Pittsburgh to Baltimore this past July, we had six weeks of lead time but only one weekend to physically search for an apartment. So I used a combination of Twitter, Craigslist, Google Maps and a few extra web tricks to find our new apartment in record time AND learn more about Baltimore than I would have expected along the way. I think our process would scale for anyone moving to, from or around Baltimore or any other city with web access -- which is to say, all of them.
About Justin Kownacki:
A relatively new Baltimorean, I was formerly a 12-year veteran of Pittsburgh, PA, where I launched the web's longest-running sitcom, Something to Be Desired, in 2003. In 2006, I founded PodCamp Pittsburgh, an annual "un-conference" for social media practitioners (and people who want to be), which is scheduled for its 5th iteration in 2010. I'm currently the Director of Social Media for Fairfield, CT-based Creative Concepts, LLC, a job which I telecommute to on a round-the-clock basis.
