Ignite Baltimore #6

Chris Shafer

Postcards from Baltimore

I love Baltimore so much I bought a house here before I had a job. -- the response that won my position with Baltimore Development Corporation in 1996

What is the one place in Baltimore that have you have to brag about? Something that is not in the guidebooks that you might only know about from an insider? Asking my colleagues what is that special place has lead to some great visuals: The Green Chili chicken soup at the Golden West Cafe Driving over the I95 flyover at the Middle Branch at sunrise The dome inside the JHU campus on Broadway Watching the sunset from the top of the City Hall dome The dynamic redevelopment of Silo Point, American Can, Tide Point, and Inner Harbor East and more I'd like to collect these visuals and share the story of inside Baltimore--and the people who are passionate about it. With luck, a Tumbler site might be set up and this view of the City could become self-sufficient with contributions from all on their favorite places.

About Chris Shafer:

I am a believer in the Baltimore that continues to evolve and unfold through countless challenges, visionaries, and long time residents. My experience with Baltimore ranges from a year with Baltimore Development Corporation, 7 years working on the waterfront with a tugboat firm, and great times exploring a few of the stories Baltimore has to offer. My love affair with the City is passionate and unending--the stories of the giants that made the city are just as fascinating as the men and women who have forged a new model of the creative city from the leavings of the past.

Over many dinners and bottles of wine, so many of the conversations turn to the great stories of the City around us. I am delighted to be a part of the fabric, and am continually enamored with the City we call home.
