Kevin Griffin Moreno
Sex, Drugs, and Philanthropy
To most people, the phrase "philanthropist" brings to mind someone who looks like the Monopoly guy: top hat, monocle, bag of money with a dollar sign on it, etc. But it's far easier to be a philanthropist than we might think. And the benefits of contributing to the civic good go far beyond dollars and cents.
This talk will: - describe how donating your time, talent, and/or treasure lights up the brain's pleasure center in the same way that sex, opiates, and good food do; - explore the wide range of activities and attitudes comprised by the term "philanthropy"; - give examples of how one act of philanthropy can have a huge ripple effect; and - tell people how they can start being philanthropists right now.
Doing good for others: it's safe, legal...and rewarding.
